Chapel of the Animals
A place of support for those who grieve the loss or illness of a companion animal.
This Chapel is sacred space. When completed, it will be beautifully decorated with a mural featuring various animals and hand-painted tiles honoring and memorializing beloved companion animals. It is designed to enable visitors to reflect and appreciate how companion animals have enriched their lives, and to help heal the very real pain that accompanies a beloved animal’s transition. Jeanne E. Kataoka, RScP, OAC, the Animal Ministry lead, is an ordained Animal Chaplain and credentialed Animal Bereavement Facilitator through the Passmore Animal Chaplain Program of the Emerson Theological Institute.
We offer memorial services honoring companion animals on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. These are held in the downstairs Chapel on the campus. Reservations are not needed. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Candles are available to light in memory of a beloved companion animal. Love offering donations are accepted to support our Animal Ministry programs.
Participants are invited to bring pictures or other remembrance of their animals to place on the altar during the service. These and candles may be taken home after the service.
